Dog Parks

Lady Walking Dog
In the City of Los Angeles, it is against the law for your dog to be off a leash outside private property (LAMC 53.06.2).  To give residents and their companions special places to play without a leash, the City has worked through the Department of Recreation and Parks and other Departments to develop a network of “dog parks.”  Dog parks are designated areas in public recreation areas, ranging from wilderness areas to urban parks, where you can legally let your dog off his leash.

Bringing your dog to the dog park is a great way to exercise and socialize your pet and is also entertaining for you!  Of course, it goes without saying that responsible dog ownership is necessary anytime you bring your animal into a public area.  Although the dog park is considered “neutral territory” by most dogs, overly aggressive and fearful dogs are not the best candidates for dog park play.  You also should not bring your dog to a dog park if it is sick or in heat.  Please limit the number of dogs you bring with you to no more than three per person in order to maintain control. Also, please be a good citizen and clean up after your dog/s for the sake of visitors after you.
