When Street Trees Cause Damage

The Urban Forestry Division's top priority is the safety of the street trees it manages. Nevertheless, since trees are dynamic living organisms, trees sometimes fail in part or whole. The Bureau should be contacted as soon as possible by dialing 3-1-1. Except in times of severe wind and/or rainstorms, the Division will respond within 24 hours and usually much sooner.

Occasionally, tree failures may cause damage. If this occurs, a Damage Claim form may be obtained by contacting the City Clerks office at (213) 978-1133 or on-line at http://www.lacity.org/clk/cps/claims%20for%20damages.pdf .

This information sheet is provided as a public service. Hopefully, it answers the important questions regarding street tree damages.
