David Gershwin
Chief of Staff
David Gershwin serves as Chief of Staff to Council President Eric Garcetti and manages all aspects of the office.
David has a rich background in government and politics, most recently serving as the Director of Government Relations for The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. He joined The Jewish Federation from the Los Angeles office of the MWW Group, where he oversaw media relations and strategic communications planning. Prior to his work there, he served for more than five years as Director of Communications for Los Angeles City Council President Alex Padilla. In addition to his communications duties, Gershwin developed strategy on the issue of San Fernando Valley secession and covered key legislative issues. Gershwin has also served as legislative manager for the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
David is a graduate of the Jewish Federation's New Leaders Project. Additionally, he serves as a regional board member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League and is a graduate of their Salvin Leadership Institute. He has also served as co-chair of the Anti-Defamation League's Latino-Jewish Roundtable. David has been a guest lecturer at USC's Annenberg School of Communications graduate journalism course on governmental reporting since 2003, and in July 2004 was profiled in the Los Angeles Downtown News as a member of Generation Next: The 35-and-under movers and shakers shaping politics.
David and his wife, Beverly, reside in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles.
