L.A. BIRTHDAY
On September 4, 1781 the pueblo of Los Angeles was founded by
44 settlers, or pobladores, who walked from Mission San Gabriel
to El Pueblo Historical Monument. To commemorate this
historic event, each year during the first week of September,
the City of Los Angeles, City of San Gabriel and the descendents
of the original settlers, Los Pobladores 200, present a reenactment
walk - so everyone can take part in the historic journey. Just
as it was more than two centuries ago, the walk begins at the
San Gabriel Mission and proceeds nine miles west to El Pueblo
Historical Monument where there is a gala birthday celebration
with plenty of cake and entertainment for everyone!
