A celebration of the Epiphany (visit of the Three Kings) with
music and a colorful procession on Olvera Street.
CANDELARIA
Traditional blessing of elaborately dressed dolls depicting the
presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple.
MARDI GRAS
Celebration of “Fat Tuesday” Olvera Street style with
Brazilian singing and dancing, a colorful parade, the crowning
of Miss Olvera Street and a costume contest.
“LANTERN FESTIVAL” CHINESE AMERICAN MUSEUM
Annual Festival with lantern making workshops, entertainment,
artisans, and cultural exhibits.
“CESAR E. CHAVEZ DAY” MEXICAN CULTURAL INSTITUTE
Celebrating the birthday honoring the many contributions of Mexican
American labor leader Cesar E. Chavez.
BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS
This centuries-old tradition of blessing the animals, for the
benefits they provide mankind, is celebrated in the Plaza. All
pets are welcome.
OLVERA STREET 76TH ANNVERSARY CELEBRATION
Celebrating Olvera Street, one of the oldest streets in Los Angeles,
a Mexican Market place opened in the 1930s. Parade and Festival.
CINCO DE MAYO
Celebration of Mexico’s victory over French forces in Puebla,
Mexico in 1862, with popular and traditional music, cultural presentations,
dance and food.
INDIGENOUS DAY
A special day celebrating the rich culture and ancient traditions
of native people of the Americas.
LOS ANGELES CITY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
225th Anniversary of the founding of Los Angeles with historic
re-enactments, artisan demonstrations, exhibits, food and entertainment.
MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
Celebration of Mexican Independence from Spain with popular and
traditional entertainment, cultural activities, historic displays,
food, artisan exhibits and more.
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
Colorful, ancient Mexican ceremony in remembrance of departed
loved ones with beautifully decorated altars and entertainment.
Novenario procession each night beginning Wednesday, October 25th
throughThursday, November 2nd.
HOLIDAY SEASON LIGHTING CEREMONY
The official start of the holiday season on historic Olvera Street
in downtown Los Angeles. See the illumination of the entire plaza
and the Christmas tree. Enjoy complimentary refreshments and family
entertainment.
GUADALUPE DAY CELEBRATION
Celebrating the Virgen de Guadalupe’s appearance to native
Mexican Juan Diego in 1531. Food, shopping and family entertainment.
LAS POSADAS
This nightly presentation of the nine-day journey of Mary and
Joseph to Bethlehem is portrayed with singing, entertainment,
a candlelight procession on Olvera Street and the breaking of
a piñata each evening.
