Sergeant Fredo is a eleven year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and is currently assigned to Wilshire Patrol Division as a field supervisor.
Prior to coming to Los Angeles, Sergeant Fredo was a patrol deputy for 3 years with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department in Michigan.
Sergeant Fredo holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan. In addition, he is in the process of applying to Law School here in the Los Angeles area.
In 1989, Sergeant Fredo was certified by the LAPD as a narcotics expert with respect to opiate and PCP influence as well as possession for sale of various drugs. Since then, he has continued his training in the area of drug symptomatology, and in 1992, he was certified as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
In 1993, Sergeant Fredo attend the DRE Instructor School sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation. In this course, he received training on the teaching techniques, knowledge, and skill development to teach the DR program. He was certified as an instructor in 1993.
Sergeant Fredo has taught officers from the LAPD, as well as officers from outside agencies from California and across the nation. He has researched and written several papers on the effects of drugs on the body. Sergeant Fredo has gained additional teaching experience by teaching entry level college classes at the University of Michigan.
