Officer John Mott


Officer Mott has been a Los Angeles Police Officer since 1977. He has worked a variety of uniformed patrol assignments as well as plain clothed narcotic enforcement details. He began his career with the LAPD as a student worker in 1973. Officer Mott worked as a LAPD police student worker while attending Los Angeles City College, where he graduated with honors. He gained his initial narcotic experience by working special details and footbeats in several divisions (77th, Southwest, Rampart, Northeast, Hollywood, Newton, Central, and Hollenbeck). Officer Mott has been a LAPD certified narcotics expert since 1986. In 1990 he attended the LAPD DRE school and graduated first in his class. Officer Mott has attended the LAPD five day narcotics officer school, the LAPD/University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) seven day instructor development school and the five day LAPD/International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) DRE instructor school. Officer Mott has been an IACP certified DRE instructor since 1991.

AS a DRE instructor, Officer Mott has instructed more that 880 officers from various jurisdictions at twenty five different DRE schools. Currently Officer Mott is assigned to the LAPD DRE unit as the Training Coordinator. One of his duties was the creation of this web site.
