Officer Gregory Nichols, a twenty-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, is currently assigned to the Firearms Training Unit, Los Angeles Police Academy as a Friearms Instructor.
Officer Nichols' past assignments have consisted of DUI sobriety check points, alcohol and drug detection of impaired drivers, Accident Investigation, the Central Bureau Narcotic Task Force, and various patrol duties in the South and Central Bureaus.
After working patrol assignments and gaining expertise in Opiate and PCP influence, along with packaging techniques used for street sales, Officer Nichols became a certified Drug Recognition Expert in 1984. He was certified by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the U.S. Department of Transportation, as a DRE instructor/ trainer. Officer Nichols holds a B.S. degree in Criminology from Indiana State University. He attended the UCLA Instructors Development Program in 1982 and holds a California State College Teaching Credential. Also, he has served as a guest speaker and instructor for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration at Golden West and Saddleback Colleges. Officer Nichols is therefore recognized by the Los Angeles court system as an expert on drug symptomology.
As a member of the California Narcotic Officers Association, Officer Nichols is involved as a lecturer/instructor for the Los Angeles Police Departments S.T.A.N.D. Program, which involves the private business sector.
