Thomas N. Shehan has been in the Law Enforcement Profession since 1987. His experience includes ten years of service with the Irving Police Department in Texas. Currently, he is a Program Coordinator for the Texas A&M University System Law Enforcement Training Division. In addition he is the Texas Drug Evaluation and Classification Program State Coordinator.

While with the Irving Police Department, Mr. Shehan performed basic law enforcement patrol functions, participated in the Field Training Officer Program, and performed additional duties as a Traffic Officer within the Special Operations Division. Tom established the first Drug Recognition Expert Program for the City of Irving, and went on to coordinate both the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and DRE Programs for his department.

Mr. Shehan became involved with the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program in October 1994. After being certified as a DRE for five years, Tom went on to become a DRE Instructor. Tom Shehan has been a guest speaker making presentations concerning impaired driving and the DRE Program for several professional organizations, the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, the Grand Prairie Bar Association and various police departments around the state. Tom has instructed several DRE courses throughout the state of Texas, as well as Georgia and Nevada. Mr. Shehan was instrumental in the development of an educational tool for prosecuting attorneys called the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and Drug Recognition Expert for Prosecutors. This package, consisting of multimedia material and manual containing predicate questions for both programs, was distributed to county and district attorneys throughout the State of Texas. In 1998, Tom constructed the first DRE Homepage and Statewide newsletter for the Texas DRE Program.
