Background
Law enforcement is essential in efforts to combat the impaired driver. Training in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and the Drug Recognition Expert Program (DRE) have been instrumental in detecting and prosecuting impaired drivers.

The first of these conferences was overwhelmingly successful, and the attendance doubles the following year. This year, we draw from our experience and plan to make this another productive and educational event.

The DRE program has also been found to be an effective tool for other organizations seeking help in identifying drug-impaired individuals. Private and public corporations concerned with drug use in the work place, or other sensitive professions, will find conference beneficial.

Networking
Considerable time will be devoted to working sessions during which participants will be divided into moderated break-out sessions to discuss issues and concerns unique to their areas of interest. These networking opportunities will be particularly beneficial to DRE agency coordinators, SFST and DRE instructors, and prosecutors and toxicologists involved in impaired driving cases. By sharing information with other agencies, instructors will learn new training techniques and program coordinators will gain insight into more effective management skills.
