Since taking office, Mayor Villaraigosa has made promoting and expanding public transit options a top priority in his transportation agenda. As part of this effort, he has encouraged LA residents to utilize the metro and bus systems throughout the City and worked diligently to secure funding.
The Mayor’s transit agenda includes:
To attract discretionary riders from their cars, meet the needs of the transit dependent, and improve air quality, public transit must be safe, reliable, fast, easy to use, affordable, and ubiquitous. To that end, our plan envisions:
• Improving transit security
• Maintaining an innovative, first class, clean fuel bus system
• Expanding the regional urban rail transit network, including a “subway to the sea”
• Creating attractive higher density “Transit Villages” near public transportation
• Obtaining increased federal, state and local funding
• Increasing the utilization of public transit
