
The City of Los Angeles, Recreation and Parks Department,
Aquatics Division offers families and community members many
healthy, affordable and safe aquatic activities at their public
pools, lakes and beaches.
The Aquatics Division operates 59 swimming pools, 10 lakes
and a beach. In addition,
the city operates 11 open water facilities.
These open water facilities are open year round, offering fishing, paddle
boating and small craft programs.

West Adams Preparatory High School

West Adams Preparatory High School will offer group swim lessons and aquatic activities for youth ages 10 through 17 years old. Program offerings include group swim lessons, competitive swimming and diving teams, inner-tube water polo and junior lifeguards. The pool will be operated by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks and will open from July 6th to August 29th. Miguel Contreras Learning Complex

Miguel Contreras Learning Complex will offer a public swim program operated through the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks. The swim season will run from July 6th to August 29th. In addition to open recreational swim, the facility will offer a range of learn-to-swim classes and youth aquatic activities. | POOL NOTES: Fifty-four summer (seasonal) pools, are open the fourth
Saturday in June through Labor Day. These outdoor facilities
offer morning and afternoon public swim sessions. Twelve of the remaining pools, operate year round and offer afternoon
and evening swim sessions to the general public. Some pools offer morning and noon lap swim sessions.
At some locations, swimming lessons
and team programs are offered free of charge.
The seasonal pools are generally open from 10:00 - 6:00 p.m.
on weekdays and 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. on weekends. The year-round
facilities' hours of operation vary per facility. View facility listings (above) for more information. Currently, the
City's pools offer free swimming for youth 17 and under, Seniors
and disabled. Special
passes are available for various programs. Adults showing a library card get a reduced admission price of $2.00 rather than the regular admission of $2.50. |
Special Olympics swim team is designed for athletes
who want to train and compete in Special Olympic events. For
persons with mental and/or mental-physical disabilities only.
This program is intended for the recreational participant.
It does not come with any commitment to the program depending
on the chosen level of participation. It is a seasonal program,
however we encourage year-round participation in order to
experience the full breadth of aquatic competition. Team practices
include water instruction and may include dry land warm-ups.
There is an opportunity for all participants to compete against
other teams with similar ability and age citywide. Participation
awards are given seasonally to each individual. Program is
designed to accommodate both male and female participants.
Prerequisites: Participants must be 7-17 years of age and
must be able to swim the width of the pool and back in deep
water of that designated pool.

Inner tube Polo Team |

Similar to traditional polo, this program is played by moving
through the water on inner tubes. This program is designed
to involve all levels of swimming abilities. |

Springboard Dive Team |

Includes instruction on 1-3 meter board depending on location.
Training on technique to accomplish required dives. |

Swim Team |

Includes instruction on the four basic competitive strokes. |

Synchronized Swim Team (Synchro Team) |

Includes instruction on figures, routines, and choreography. |

Water Polo Team |
| |
Includes instruction on drills, shooting, passing, swimming
conditioning, and overall knowledge of the game. |
** EPICC Swim Stadium Provides Home to City’s Competitive Youth Swim Team
Participate in the Southern California or Southern Pacific
section of United States Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, and
Water Polo. These teams also compete against swimmers of the
same age and level and qualify for national tournaments. Prerequisite:
Try-out with coach/manager, orientation and parent participation.
For persons with mental or physical disabilities, this program
helps participants to learn and improve skills, maintain and
increase physical fitness, achieve success and receive recognition,
and experience self-actualization in a regular aquatics environment.
The city provides instruction in canoeing, sailing, windsurfing
and other type of small craft activities.
The Junior Lifeguard Program is a class designed to teach
children ages 10-17 years basic water safety, skin diving,
CPR, First Aid, and small crafts skills.

Aquacise |

This fat-burning fitness workout incorporates muscular and
cardiovascular conditioning. Exercise includes some rhythmic
activities, muscle strengthening and toning while having fun
too! |

Flex-stretch |

A low stretch and walk class that moves at a more leisurely
pace. This class promotes flexibility, improves posture and
increases cardiovascular endurance. Enjoy the rewards of working
in a safe and effective exercise program. |

Step Aerobically |

A high intensity, high stepping, exciting water exercise program.
Enjoy the benefits of this "Step in Water" program
designed to minimize land (shock) impact, gain greater flexibility
and resistance. This class will challenge even the toughest
"Aerobic Animal". Ideal for non-swimmers too! Not
recommended for those just beginning an exercise program. |

Woggle Work |

A new water exercise concept using the "woggle",
a colorful and exciting buoyancy device that provides extra
stability when exercising. The class helps strength building
thru a cardiovascular, fat burning aerobic workout. This is
a shallow water activity recommended for all ages, giving
even non-swimmers confidence. |

Zero-Impact |

A deep-water exercise class that strengthens and builds all
over muscle tone without impact to the joints. Belts will
be provided or you may bring your own. Participants must be
to able to swim in deep water. |

Community Water Safety |

The purpose of this course is to present information about
various aquatics environments and their potential hazards
and to inform the general public on how to safely participate
in aquatic activities. |

Lifeguard Training |

To provide Lifeguard candidates and lifeguards with the skills
and knowledge necessary to keep the patrons aquatics facility
safe in and around the water. |
